Thesis Title: Evaluation of TH1/TH2 Response in Dendritic Cell Pulsed Vaccination against Leishmania donovani Infection and Combined Chemotherapy

Dr. Santu Bandyopadhyay

About

Cellular Immunology & Experimental Therapeutics :-

Visceral Leishmaniasis had taken an endemic form in 88 countries Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America with a total of 200 million people at risk with the new cases nearly 5, 00,000 per year. Dendritic Cells and Macrophages are the key factors in regulating the innate immune system and are centrally located in the host response against L. donovani infection. Production of reactive nitric oxide (NO) and cytokines like IL-12 & IFN-gamma endows these cells and also potentates the T cells with potent antileishmanial activity. I am interested in developing the immuno-prophylactic/ immuno-therapeutic strategies either by cell / protein based or by herbal immunomodulators / chemotherapeutic agents against this deadly vector borne disease which has been included among the six major diseases for intensive research and control by World Health Organization (WHO).
Formulation of low cost Immunonutrients / Nutraceuticals for the people below poverty line - the ancient knowledge in new pack is one of my favorite streams of works are going on steadily in  my laboratory.
